The rules of the outpost
The outpost is a small town. It works when people are kind, curious and careful with shared things. By having an account you agree to these rules; the sysop may suspend accounts that break them.
Be a good neighbour
- Be kind. No harassment, hate, threats or bullying, here or about residents elsewhere.
- Assume good faith, help newcomers, and say sorry when you get it wrong.
- Respect privacy: don't read, copy or publish other people's private things, and don't try to get around file permissions.
- Not everyone is an expert. Questions are welcome; gatekeeping is not.
Share the machine fairly
- Your space is 500 MB. Ask the sysop if you need more for a real project.
- No cryptocurrency mining, no heavy long-running computation, no file sharing hubs, no backup dumping.
- Bots and small services are fine if they are polite, slow and don't bother other servers.
- Use cron and long-running processes thoughtfully; if something you run causes trouble it may be stopped.
Don't harm other places
- No attacking, scanning or spamming other computers, and no sending bulk mail.
- No illegal content, nothing that infringes other people's copyright, no malware.
- Don't use the outpost to hide who you are while doing things you shouldn't.
Your things
- What you publish is yours. Pick a licence if you like; the outpost claims nothing.
- There are no backups promised. Keep copies of what matters to you.
Talking to the sysop
Ask at the campfire, write mail braigetori from your account, or post on the board. Reports about abuse are read and acted on.
